Program Spotlight: Summer Friends

Summer Friends provides teens on the autism spectrum with a summer camp opportunity filled with activities designed to develop social skills and encourage community engagement. Young adult mentors and program coordinators seize authentic experiences for coaching throughout the day, but the program’s semi-structured environment gives teens the freedom to make their own choices and create unique connections with other teens.

What does a typical day in Summer Friends look like? The short answer is that there is no typical day in Summer Friends. Although the schedule of the program stays constant day to day to provide structure for participants, the activities and outings that Summer Friends engage in change daily. One day participants might be putting on a talent show at the house, and the next you might find them relaxing at one of the local Niantic beaches.

Give your teen the opportunity to meet and interact with teens from all over Southeastern Connecticut at Summer Friends, and give yourself the afternoon off as our experienced mentors lead participants in social improv games, local community service projects, and much more!

Summer Friends is now enrolling for the summer. Go to lhcampus.com/summer-friends for more information on our curriculum. This five-week program meets daily in Niantic from 2-5pm. Contact Catherine Chow at 860-445-7626x111 or cchow@lvecenter.com to sign your teen up today!
