Julie Hill Named Education Director

The Light House is pleased to announce the appointment of Julie Hill as Education Director of The Learning Campus; a state-approved private school for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Julie joined the Light House in 2018 as the Lead Teacher at our Annex School, and has been serving as the Interim Education Director since the departure of Kathy White in September of 2020. "I became a teacher to make a difference in the lives of kids who do not learn in traditional ways, and love that The Light House allows for flexible thinking and the use of creative teaching techniques."

Julie's career in education began in 1997 as a Teacher's Assistant at Westerly High School, where she worked within all of their Special Education programs including alternative programs both on and off campus. In 2014 Julie earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Western Governors University, and began teaching in the private sector as a Life Skills Teacher at Waterford Country School; a private special education school for at-risk youth. In 2019 Julie began her studies in Education Administration, earning her 092 Intermediate Administration and Supervision Certification in August of 2020, and her Certificate of Advanced Studies in December of 2020.

"A leader is only as good as the team they lead. I am blessed and honored to work with such an amazing group of dedicated professionals. They are the ones doing the heavy lifting, making my job easier."

As Education Director, Julie collaborates with departments from both campuses to develop individualized programs for each student based on their specific needs to reach their full potential.

"We're happy to have Julie as part of our leadership team. There were many challenges thrown her way this year and I look forward to seeing Julie continue to grow into her new role." -Kassidy Brown, Executive Director
