Highlights from our Autism Education Conference

The Light House's 2019 Autism Education Conference hosted 20 exhibitors and over 150 attendees for a day of learning and networking at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum in Ledyard, CT. This year’s event brought in 8 speakers from across the country to present on topics throughout the day.

Keynote speakers, Dr. Peg Donohue and Robin Fox, kicked off the day by incorporating this year’s theme of inclusion into their interactive presentation. Their presentation discussed how to create inclusive environments for students with autism through activities such as social improv and fostering a mindset of compassion.

Other highlights included:

  • Breakout sessions covering a range of different topics including sexual health and healthy relationships for teens on the spectrum, supporting positive behavioral outcomes, service dogs for children with autism, how schools can foster inclusive environments for their students, the DIR/Floortime Model, and using and implementing AAC devices

  • An Exhibitor Fair featuring related service providers and educational companies from all over the East Coast

  • A Networking Hour sponsored by Liberty Bank where attendees, exhibitors and speakers had the opportunity to discuss and expand on the conversations started during the day
